Can't get too comfortable, though. I guess ya guys aren't too bad at keepin` me on my toes.
( It's the closest to a compliment he'll give to the Shinsengumi. He can't fluff their egos up too much-- some of them are proud enough already without the extra help. It's his duty as a rebel's sword to keep them a little humble.
As tired as he may be, he stands a little taller and feels a little more energy flow into him at the talk. If he's honest... it still hurts his heart, a little, in that nostalgic and melancholy sort of way. But he will always be proud of his old master-- the one who took him from their home and showed him a world beyond the walls of their domain. A man so great, he could change a nation and would have changed the world if only... No, he won't think of that. At least, he wouldn't have if Souji hadn't said a thing.
For a moment, he'd been swelling with pride and strength and now, he feels like the wind is knocked out of him all over again. Everything is so heavy and he freezes in his steps. He's frozen-- even the blood in his veins have gone cold like ice. His heart drops down into his stomach and his stomach begins to twist and turn. This isn't news. This is the opposite of news. This is old-- something in the past, something that has become an unchangeable historical fact but the look on his face is just like one who has heard for the first time.
"It wasn't supposed to end like that."
He knows. He knows he knows he knows and it scares him. He's always been a proud sword-- loud and unashamed of his history except for...
Mutsu doesn't say anything but the pained and surprised expression on his face is clearly asking, what do you know? )
All the way up there? ( He's looking up in the branches and sees the haori. It doesn't look too hard to get, not with someone else helping and he nods, ) I'll give ya a lift if ya can make it.
( And he's already lacing his fingers together make a lift with his hands but he's unsure with how out of it Rinne seems. )
( The black smoke, at least, is enough to make him jump back a little. In his defense, when whispy black things show up, it's normally a good sign back home! Ah, but this is just a helmet of some sort manifesting for him to use? Thiat's okay and he reaches out to accept it, bowing his head just a little bit in shy and grateful excitement, )
Thanks, Celty-san. ( Ah, but... he's being a little selfish, isn't he? ) Uhm... ya okay too?
( I mean I guess she did just fall from the sky too like he did. )
Lookin` around, what's it look like? ( He might be a runner but even someone always on his feet like him has to stop and take a break once in awhile to catch his bearings, ) Wouldn't wanna go running into trouble 'cause I wasn't looking out, ya know?
( The chittering turns to distressed chittering and its enough to get Mutsu to pause and look back. Did something happen? Should he be concerned? Ah... he isn't sure what to think when he sees Yamato with his sword drawn, taking a swing at those strange creatures, ominously ORA'ing as he does so. )
Ya think? ( He doesn't feel so lucky, not when he's being chased by these things and found by Yamato. ) Ya can take 'em! All of 'em!
( Shoo shoo! Except now they're all trying to retreat towards him, away from Yamato... or are they still trying to eat him? )
( The idea of meeting others seems to catch his attention. Kousetsu should know Mutsu-- this is a sword who is always down for new things: new people, new places, new anything! But something about this seems to have him wary, )
Ya think sor? ( Arms crossed, hands in his sleeves, ) Hopefully they're nice... a lotta people seem kinda mad at the guys in charge here.
( Hopefully they won't get caught in the middle? Though, that seems too late. )
