( He's in the middle of shaking his hair dry with a towel with Kashuu finds him! Salt water is something you don't really want to leave on swords or skin for too long unless you like feeling sticky and gross and itchy. He figured he might as well wash off while waiting for his turn at repairs-- which is somewhere further along the line since he isn't too bad. If anything, he's more exhausted than damaged. He looks up from under the towel when he hears Kashuu and gives something of a laugh, )
Hah hah! Ya mean before or after the sea monster? ( Is he serious? It's hard to tell if he's serious because he's saying it like it's no big deal and wouldn't sea monsters be a big deal. But he'll be serious, setting the towel around over his shoulders, crossing his legs together, and giving Kashuu his attention, ) A beach, eventually.
( There were other places but in the end, they were at a beach. )
[Seems like they've had the same idea, since Kashuu looks freshly cleaned too. The repairs he needs are next to nothing since he was actually pretty lucky this time around (and smart enough to not go touching poisonous mushrooms and glowing flowers!! guys!!!!), so he's tidied himself up as well as possible and is busying himself until the long line goes down.
Also, what? What... WHAT. Sea monsters??]
Are you serious? You went to the ocean and ran into a monster? [Which isn't unbelievable considering some of the creatures that had been out in the jungle, but still... As for the question:]
I'm preeetty sure we were in a volcano or something. [Too hot, hot damn.] Haruji was with our group. [Luckily, he's pretty sure none of the swords with fire trauma were.]
Ya're kiddin`. ( You can't actually go inside a volcano, he knows that much. Well, maybe they can since they're born from the forge but Haru? He's only human. ) Is he ok?
Should he be resting?
( He's worried now! Not that he wasn't before because he sure as heck was looking for Haru earlier but... knowing Haru and how serious and kind he is, it's very much like him to focus on the swords before paying attention to himself. And he can't deny that Kousetsu in particular needs the attention but should Haru maybe be resting? )
[A sigh, and he sets his hand against his hip, glancing back down the hall toward the makeshift repair room. He's endeared by it, really! But also worried because yeah, days in what was presumably an underground network of tunnels extremely close to the inside of a volcano is not the ideal condition for humans.]
We'll just have to keep an eye on him, make sure he doesn't overwork himself.
Yeah, yeah. ( He knows! And he really can't help but chuckle because like Kashuu, he too, is endeared. He's really lucky, you know? To have two good masters in a row like this. ) Got it, I'll keep both eyes out.
... Ya know, though, ya don't look too bad for someone that was in a volcano ya'rself.
Good. [The more eyes on Haru, the better... HE NEEDS BABYSITTERS TOO, just a different variety.
He huffs a little at that though, because HE'S AWARE... He's aware he somehow managed to pull through better than almost every other sword.]
I had some good luck and I stayed away from the things that looked like they'd change that. [Like wandering into the darkness in areas where geysers were spewing out white-hot water!!] The place we were at - I'm pretty sure it was some kinda cave system with a volcano close by 'cause the ground was hot all the time and the only water was coming from geysers that burnt the air around 'em. Buuut we didn't have to deal with sea monsters or anything. It was just a super, super hostile environment, y'know? Not a lot of water, not much food. [Kashuu is a sword and a sword used to conditions like, so his biggest problem was the temperature...]
But I made sure Haruji didn't go off on his own or anything and we hunted up what we could.
( There's no need to be offended, gosh, Kashuu. For all he knows, Kashuu was probably fighting the Devil on Bald Mountain and came out looking fabulous. He's listening carefully, though, trying to see if maybe-- just maybe-- anything Kashuu experience sounds or seems familiar. It's unlikely that they were anywhere near each other (he doesn't remember any volcanoes nearby) but one never knows! )
Hmm...
( He's sitting up a little straighter now, one hand on the floor and beginning to trace a path with his finger, )
We landed in a river first. We traveled a li'l bit 'til we found some old boats... ya know, like someone else made 'em a long time ago. ( His finger stops on the floor and he taps it, ) Then we found a village kinda like the one we were all at before 'cept it wasn't as ruined.
The inside of the houses were kinda... weird. A lot of old modern things like metal and machines. And it was totally abandoned-- no one was around.( A brief moment of silence as he tries to recollect anything else from the visit. Gee, he feels like he's giving a report and can't afford to forget any details. ) The water was dirtier too; the water from earlier was real clean.
[TOO LATE, he just automatically assumes that the most insulting option is the one Mutsu means!!
But he'll listen very carefully in turn, and dang, it really is starting to feel like some sort of debriefing or report-sharing session. He's not surprised that nothing sounds familiar, either way.]
Geez, they really did take us to entirely different parts of the jungle.
[Look!! He likes Ardeo! But the sudden separation and the apparent distance between all parties involved was no bueno, especially considering they were kind of all in the process of slowly dying and only Mosley did something about it.]
I guess the whole breathing thing was a problem for you guys too, right? I think that was like, the only thing every one of us had in common. {Except for those air-aligned assholes, what punks.]
( Likewise, Maris seems okay enough. Just okay. Since he sort of just left them to their own devices but that's better than being against them, right? )
--I didn't know there were any volanoes 'til ya said something. ( He's no tantou or wakizashi but his scouting skills aren't so bad he could miss a smoking mountain, right? He isn't too surprised by this-- the world is pretty huge! It just means there's more things for them to see. )
Yeah! It was weird! ( Since! He normally doesn't have to breathe! ) I'm all for the beach and I'm not afraid of a big monster or nothin` but I dunno how much longer we could have lasted like that out there.
[That pretty much reflects Kashuu's thoughts. The flooding had been a pain in the ass and Kashuu doesn't personally care for Maris much based on what he's heard, but at least they're not as outright shady as CERES... They're just cryptic in the usual non-human spirity type way, and he's certainly got a lot more experience with things like that.]
I figured there was an ocean somewhere 'cause of the river, but I didn't think we'd get to it any time soon with all that jungle. [They walked for a thousand years and no water!! But clearly the planet is quite large then, considering that's just two of the presumably four locations people had ended up in.]
Right? [BREATHING. It definitely made Kashuu wary for multiple reasons; that's part of why he'd been so quick to check on Yamato when he woke up, too.] Things were going in the same direction for us. Sounds like it was that way for the others that I've talked to, too.
I wanna say I didn't know there was one so close but I don't know how far we were.
( Does anyone know exactly how far they were at all? Ugh, they need a map. )
It's weird though, don't ya think? It was a little hard to breathe when we were all together but it was just 'cause it was humid, right? Unless it wasn't.
( That's what he thought it was at first. Look, he's an old sword he doesn't know about atmospheres being breathable. )
It makes sense for ya guys if ya were near a volcano but oceans don't mess up your breathing unless you're going around swallowing water through your nose.
Same, same. Nooo idea where we ended up. I mean, we couldn't really see outside of the tunnels anyway.
[But the point is still the same!! And he nods along in response to Mutsu's speculation, because he's more or less thinking the same thing there, too.]
Maybe it just got worse because we were in bigger groups? Or - for us it was kinda like that, anyway. We were crammed together, but I guess a beach is pretty big, huh?
[He doesn't know about atmospheres being breathable too!! This is too science-y for him.]
And the air... it's better at the beach. At least, that's how it's s'posed to be. ( Of course, he's a little biased here, having been forged on an island, living there most of his life, and then spending his last years at sea. ) Have ya ever been to the beach before?
( Tilting his head to one side here beacuse look... he don't know your life, Kashuu. )
[Island swords!! Kashuu can understand where the bias might come from, at least; a lot of swords and people alike have an affinity for their "birthplace" or the places that they spent the most time in, and he knows that Tosa at least is a port city.
Shaking his head at the question, though!]
No, but I've heard stuff about it. [He went from rivers to Kyoto to the Citadel and hasn't had his beach episode yet. When will the KBCgulls come for him?] I heard that, too - mountain air and ocean air are supposed to be really good for people. Maybe it's just different for weird alien beaches?
( Ugh these poor swords that have never seen the world!!!! )
Ya should go! If we can find a way to get there without, ya know, dying. The monster wasn't that bad either. ( A wave of his hand, ) Ya could take care of another one.
... I'm worried about the villages though. Did ya see anyone else out there?
Yeah, I don't see that happening any time soon. [Unless the spirits decide to be merciful or something... OH WELL. His beach episode will come someday. Maybe they'll be able to have some nice tako for a snack.]
—We saw some things inside the tunnels that looked like houses, yeah. No one was really around, but it felt like we were being watched the whole time we were around 'em and Ardeo kept people away. I don't think they were abandoned like the ones you were talking about. Still, two villages like that - it's kinda weird, right?
Still more than what we found. Kousetsu and me were wondering what could've happened to everyone... maybe they're all just hiding out in the other villages and they're shy.
( Or scared or distrusting, but those go without saying, right? )
[He'll keep trying until one day he too can say he's seen the ocean...
But there's a nod at that - Kashuu figures they were probably wary too, considering CERES itself doesn't seem to have a good reputation in general and Maris made it clear when flooding the colony that they don't really exist separately from CERES to many.]
Maybe. I forgot to ask Ardeo about that stuff. [He feels kind of dumb now BUT OH WELL... Another time, he hopes.] You ended up with one of 'em too, right? I think that's how they split us up. Ardeo said each of us belongs to one of them or something like that and he took us to his home, so.
( That actually reminds him and he nods again! This time, enthusiatically. He knows. )
Some people mentioned that-- like Jack. He saved me from the river and said he expected us to be "fire" or "earth." ( Because they're swords made from the earth and forge, get it... ) And ya said you were near a volcano and we were over by the sea and it all matches up...
[Somehow there are a lot of waters and airs among them, too... THE OUTLIER SWORDS. But he nods along since that mostly makes sense.]
So you'd be "water", right? Ardeo said all fire is his and told me he could see some of it in me, so I guess it might be like that for everyone he brought with him. If it's like that, the cloud guy's probably an air spirit and Occidi's earth.
[So all they have to do is find some air and earth nerds and they'll have a full report! Excellent.]

( Mutsu is far from the most spirittual sword but even he knows that in Buddhism, there's still a fifth element that brings all four together. Of course, don't ask him for specifics there. He's a simple sword spirit and that's as spiritual as he gets. )
it explains a bit... like why Vietnam, Kousetsu, and me were so tired together before. Actually, a lot of the weird things that happened recently make sense when ya know we're in a group. ( Which brings him to his next concern now that they know this, )
Haruji's fire, huh?
( If they're split up again... Mutsu won't be with him. A lot of swords won't be with him. )
[Kashuu assumes that's probably what the Bridge acts as, but it's just a vague assumption since WHO KNOWS. This planet sure likes throwing curveballs at them!!]
Did they end up at the beach too? [Though now that he's thinking back on it, it definitely does make a few pieces click into place. He, Sayo and Haru had all been afflicted by those nearly unnatural (clearly unnatural, now) levels of energy and the inability to stay upset about things for long and they had all ended up with Ardeo together... He understands Mutsu's concern though, for sure - especially since most of the swords seemed to have been put elsewhere.]
Yeah, Haruji's fire. Sayo is too, but I didn't see any other swords there.
Yamato too. ( Which was the most unfortunate part after not breathing and the monster. ) Just the two of ya? ( Furrowing his brow. That isn't even a full unit. )
...
We should tell him this. I dunno what he'll do with it... but if it's about us, he'll want to know.
He's with water? [These elementals took the mirror comparison and ran with it... Though he's both glad to know 1) where Yamato was during all of this and 2) why he had been lethargic before. Rude, Maris!!
Just the two of them though, yep. He nods once in response to that, and then:]
Yeah, let's. Even if he can't do anything yet, it's better for him to know. I need to talk to him when he's done and rested anyway, so I can bring it up then.
[Along with his FREAKY PIGEON and its alarming message.]
